I am a male Aromatherapist and as one of very few, I think that in itself is quite unique. I would like to believe that being a male in this field means, I offer a slightly different perspective on things which I hope will have a resonance with many people; come and join me to find out!
I am a IEB certified Aromatherapy and Massage Practitioner and Associate Member of the IFPA, based in Bristol, United Kingdom.
I decided to embark on my journery to train to become an Aromatherapist out of my own passion for holistic and humanistic health, positive psychology and wellbeing and my drive for learning and personal development. I was encountering a number of personal challenges and battles which meant that I found myself wondering whether what I had was actually what I wanted, where I was, was actually where I wanted to be and what I was doing, was actually what I wanted to be doing. Here I am some years on and I can now see the truth of what actually was; in fact I had many of the things that I had wanted and had been asking for, I was geographically in a place I liked and I was doing some really interesting things in life, but that either didn’t make me happy or didn’t seem to fill the cup. My job was a good one, my house was lovely, my friends fantastic, my family supportive and in short life should have looked great, but it wasn’t and I wanted to start looking at new ways to lead my life more consciously.
I restarted my yoga practice which continue to provide joy and interest in my life thanks to my wonderful teachers Paul Harvey, Clara Lemon, Suzi Griffin and Sheila Baker. I joined a project with an amazing friend Clare Mann and 7 other inspiring people ending in a book “Would I Follow Me” about Conscious Leadership. And I developed my passion for Aromatherapy which thanks to my Mother and Step-Mother is something I have been aware of and exposed to throughout my formative and teenage years.
I was inspired by many people – my reflexologist at the time, my parents, my siblings, grandparents, friends, Clare Mann & Brendan Norris, and my Co-Authors from Would I Follow Me as well as many amazing books about aromatherapy, holistic health, self healing, personal development, spirituality, positive thinking, humanistic psychology, existential philosophy, real life stores and yoga. And now more recently, my partner Gail Francombe continues to inspire and fuel my enthusiasm for Aromatherapy and all things wonderful.
Its a story of success, achievement, and triumph as well as failure, sadness and confusion. But ultimately my search to become a conscious leader in my own life and my quest for greater inner fulfillment, enjoyment, personal development and happiness is happening.
I am grateful to my education and to my Mother (Pam Saunders) and Father (Chris Despres) for their passion towards my education, because it and they have enabled me to develop to this position and learn what I needed to learn in the way I did. I often wonder though, why none of this is taught in schools!?
I look forward to my future with enthusiasm, passion, inspiration and drive and I look forward to my new challenges.
